Initiatives
ASU Racing Team
Ain Shams University Racing Team is a passionate student-led team consisting of several subteams, striving to revolutionize the future of mobility through cutting-edge vehicle technology. Competing in international events like Formula Student UK, Shell Eco Marathon, EVER, Formula Student AI, and the European Rover Challenge our mission is to design, build, and race electric vehicles that showcase sustainability, engineering excellence, and teamwork.
Our journey began with designing and manufacturing an internal combustion engine (ICE) formula car, and now, we are proud to transition to fully electric vehicles, whether designing and manufacturing them or participating with our autonomous vehicles, marking a new chapter in our commitment to sustainable automotive solutions. Guided by esteemed professors as supervisors and experienced teaching assistants as advisors, we combine academic expertise with practical skills to create vehicles that shape the future of mobility.
The team was awarded as the best student organization in Egypt in 2019 and the best student activity in Ain Shams University in 2021.
Our Vision
- To become global leaders in sustainable automotive innovation, empowering students to pioneer advancements in electric vehicle technology while shaping a cleaner, greener future for mobility in Egypt.
- To foster a collaborative environment where students from diverse disciplines work together to solve real-world engineering challenges.
- To bridge the gap between academia and industry by integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience.
- To promote sustainability and innovation as core values in every aspect of vehicle design and development.
Mission
Establishing an advanced Egyptian research entity with division concerned with automotive engineering, so this initiative is to create youth leaders with passion and skills required for this mission.
The team is working on graduating a generation of students who are aware of the importance of preserving the environment and applying this through the races in which the team participates, as:
- reducing fuel consumption in gasoline-powered cars and to conserve the energy used, thus reducing the emission of harmful gases to the environment that are produced because of fuel combustion inside the car's engine.
- Using clean energy sources and working on designing and manufacturing fully electric, energy-saving and self-driving cars.
This follows the government’s trend with the start of producing electric cars in Egyptian factories, where the team’s graduates are currently working in various companies that design and manufacture vehicles inside Egypt, such as the electric bus that will work in the new administrative capital and the self-driving passenger car that works within airports and urban communities.
Formula Student United Kingdom
Formula Student United Kingdom (FSUK) is a prestigious engineering competition that challenges university teams worldwide to design and develop innovative race cars. The competition is divided into two main categories: Concept Class and Formula Class. Both categories share the same foundational knowledge and engineering principles, but they differ significantly in their objectives.
In the Concept Class, teams focus on designing a complete race car, with the competition culminating in detailed presentations and analyses of their design. Meanwhile, the Formula Class takes it a step further by requiring teams to manufacture their car and compete on the renowned Silverstone Circuit.
Each class includes rigorous evaluations across various events. For the Concept Class, teams compete in three main static events: Design, Cost and Manufacturing, and Business Logic Case (BLC). In the Formula Class, teams participate in these same events, along with an additional challenge of passing the scrutineering tests, a series of stringent inspections to ensure the car meets competition standards. Formula Class teams then advance to four dynamic events: Skid Pad, Acceleration, Endurance, and Speed Test.
Over the past two years, ASU Racing has achieved exceptional results in both categories. In FSUK 2023, we secured 1st place overall in the Concept Class, along with 1st place in the Design Event, 2nd place in Cost and Manufacturing, and 5th place in BLC. Additionally, in the Formula Class, our car was among the 19 out of 72 participants to successfully pass the rigorous scrutineering tests.
Building on this momentum, FSUK 2024 was another remarkable year for ASU Racing. We earned 1st place in the Design Event for the second consecutive year, making us the first team to achieve this milestone. We also secured 2nd place in Cost and Manufacturing, 2nd place in BLC, and 4th place overall, further establishing our reputation as a top competitor. For Formula Student Uk 25, we aim to be the first Egyptian University to manufacture and participate with a fully electric formula car.
These accomplishments reflect our relentless pursuit of excellence, and we are determined to continue raising the bar in automotive engineering and innovation in the years ahead.
Shell Eco Marathon
Shell Eco-marathon is one of the world’s leading energy-efficiency engineering programs for students aims to improve the efficiency of cars and reduce energy consumption in the pursuit of preserving the environment.
The team participates with a prototype vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine from 2013, and the vehicle achieved the lowest fuel consumption rate of 265.4 km/l, the team also achieved the safety award for the vehicle in 2017, the 1st place for an Egyptian urban vehicle to make it to the track in 2019, the 12th place worldwide and the 3rd place for Shell Egypt pitching presentation in 2023. The team also participates with an electric urban concept vehicle in 2017 in Singapore.
The team participates with a prototype vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine from 2013, and the vehicle achieved the lowest fuel consumption rate of 265.4 km/l, achieving seventh place on gasoline cars in 2019 and winning the safety and safety award in 2017.
The team participates with an electric urban concept vehicle in 2017 in Singapore.
Electric Vehicle Rally in Egypt
With the support of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Ain Shams University organized with a group of alumni team members the Electric Car Rally in Egypt, where the rally gives young engineers the opportunity to challenge and assess their technical and creative skills in designing, building, and developing an urban concept of an electric vehicle.
Recently, the team secured 2nd place overall and earned 6 out of 12 available awards.
Also, our previous achievements include securing:
- 1st place overall in 2018.
- 1st place efficiency in 2019.
