Overview

Egypt's solid waste management sector still faces significant challenges, including limited funding, outdated infrastructure, and the need for greater public awareness and participation. Addressing these issues will require a comprehensive, multi-stakeholder approach that leverages the expertise and resources of government agencies, research institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector.

The Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University is committed to contributing to the advancement of solid waste management in Egypt. Through our interdisciplinary programs in environmental engineering, governance and guidelines development, public awareness, consultancy, and reporting, we offer cutting-edge research, education, and training opportunities to help shape the future of sustainable waste management in the country and beyond.

  1. Waste Prevention and Minimization:

  • The engineering faculty is dedicated to promoting waste prevention through education, research, and the implementation of sustainable design principles.
  • They encourage practices and technologies that minimize resource consumption and the use of environmentally friendly materials.

  • Disposal is considered the least desirable option and is only pursued when all other alternatives have been exhausted.
  • The engineering faculty works to minimize the amount of waste that ends up in landfills or incineration facilities.
