Center of Excellence for Water Research
Center Objectives
- Solving industrial problems: by providing innovative scientific solutions to the challenges facing various industries and workplaces.
- Capacity Building of staff: Upgrading the skills of faculty members and engineers in the fields of water research and development by providing them with the latest tools and technologies in the water engineering field.
- Excellence in water research: Creating a stimulating environment for excellence in the field of water research at the university level.
- Encouraging scientific publishing: Supporting and publishing the results of scientific research in local and international conferences and workshops.
- Marketing innovations: Marketing innovations and water research produced by the Faculty of Engineering - Ain Shams University.
- Entrepreneurship and innovation: Encouraging entrepreneurship and transforming applied research into applicable products and services.
The center has a specialized laboratory equipped with computers and special software for numerical modeling of water quality and quantity, surface, and groundwater. The center is also a partner in many international research projects:
- Integrated approaches at the local level to enhance the efficiency of water reuse and sustainable soil fertilization from nutrients imported from wastewater, Prima Project (CIRQUA).
- Mitigating agricultural impacts in Mediterranean soils and wetlands: biological treatment techniques and environmental and economic benefits, Prima Project, (MAEWA).
- EXCEED project funded by the German Academic Exchange Service.
- Mare Nostrum project funded by the European Union.
- Center of Excellence for Water project funded by USAID.
The Center of Excellence for Water Research contains advanced and accurate devices for measuring water quality:
- Physical and chemical.
- Heavy metals.
- Organic (such as phenol and pesticide residues), and is in the process of establishing a unit for analyzing algae.
The center is based on sustainability and self-sufficiency, as it finances itself through the consulting and water analyzing work performed for private and public water sectors. The center also provides technical support inside and outside the college to help ensure the suitability of water used for drinking and various uses.
The center holds and participates in local and international conferences and exhibitions in water and wastewater fields.
MOUs and Cooperation protocols are signed between the center and public and private bodies such as:
- the Regulatory Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater (EWRA).
- the national water center, Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources.
The Founder and General Manager of the center
Hoda Kamal Soussa
Professor of water Resources engineering
