In 2016, the Arab Republic of Egypt launched its first version of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development: Egypt Vision 2030, as a cornerstone for a comprehensive developmental process, taking into account the national priorities to outline a roadmap that achieves sustainable development and meets the aspirations of the Egyptian people for a dignified and decent life.
In light of the challenges witnessed through the past seven years on the global, regional and national levels, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development sought to update the first version of the vision, through a participatory approach engaging all actors and development partners from the government, the private sector and civil society, in addition to a pool of distinguished academics and experts in different fields.
In this context, the updated version of “Egypt Vision 2030” was published. The Vision identified four guiding principles that represent the main pillars that direct the implementation of the six strategic goals, while utilizing seven enablers that serve as tools to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development in Egypt. The updated vision also includes a number of strategic indicators with identified numerical targets, for an efficient monitoring and evaluation process in order to regularly improve performance.
