Unit's Objectives
Properties & Materials Testing and Quality Control Research center (MRC) is a unit of a special nature affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering - Ain Shams University. MRC was awarded the accreditation for testing according to ISO/IEC 17025 by The Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) on July 25th, 2024. MRC provides its expertise as a specialized university unit to all institutions, consulting centers, and contracting companies in the field of materials and products testing, quality control, and preparing different technical studies in its field of interest. MRC also conducts laboratory and field tests on industrial materials and products with the aim of verifying their quality according different specifications and codes requirements.

Engineering Services Provided by the Unit
- Conducting laboratory tests on industrial materials and products with the aim of verifying the quality of these materials and products and their fulfillment of different specifications and codes requirements.
- Conducting traditional tests for quality control and monitoring of materials and products (concrete - concrete materials - reinforcing bars - bricks - other building materials, as well as industrial products such as electrical tensioners - welded joints - formed sections).
- Conducting laboratory tests and studies on modern materials with the aim of determining their properties.
- Conducting studies and laboratory tests on materials and facilities of various types (residential - administrative - industrial - .... etc.) with the aim of determining their structural safety.
- Organizing training courses for engineers with the aim of activating and raising the scientific and applied level of engineers in the unit’s field of specialization.
- Conducting laboratory and field tests and preparing the necessary studies and technical reports.
- Carrying out technical inspection tasks on the production of construction materials and units and technology for their use on construction sites.
- Develop, design and implement quality control and assurance programs for materials, products and facilities.
- Conducting non-destructive tests on facilities to determine their resistance and suitability.
- Conducting the necessary tests to study the properties and behavior of facilities to evaluate them and develop the necessary programs for restoration and strengthening.
- Conducting scientific and applied research on materials and products to develop them and evaluate their use.
- Conducting joint studies with scientific, research and executive institutions.
- Conducting physical and mechanical laboratory tests on all building and construction materials to determine their suitability for use and their fulfillment of the requirements of their standard specifications, such as (reinforcing bars - bricks - building stones - timber - concrete and steel pipes - epoxy materials - flanges - electrical tower tensioners - Bridge pillars - panels Steel – steel sections).
- Designing concrete mixtures and conducting studies on concrete technology at construction sites.
- Conducting various field tests, such as facility tests using non-destructive tests and loading tests for various facilities and major buildings.
- Calibrating and adjusting testing and loading machines in construction site laboratories.
- Conducting specialized studies in the field of the environment and how to reduce pollution resulting from concrete industry waste and how to reuse industrial waste in the production of building materials.
